Anti-aggression And The Development Of The Former Colonial Countries

The different development of former colonial countries has been research focus for economist and political scientists.It is puzzling to them that some of these countries,like the United States,Canada,Australia,are developed countries,however,some others are developing countries,even failed countries,for example,Somali,which suffered civil war and poverty a lot.Also,generally speaking,it is unreasonable that the former colonial countries which were once management by the same metropolitan state with similar geographical situation have huge difference on development.Why this difference happened,especially the difference that some keep the stable domestic political situation but others suffered civil war and chaos? This thesis will try to explore why there is different destiny of the former colony of Britain.Malaysia and Burma are similar on geographic situation and other conditions.But after they gainedtheir independence,Malaysia was democratic,peaceful and prosperous while Burma was in chaos,even civil war and controlled by military dictatorship.This thesis takes Malaysia and Burma as cases and finds that it is the different degrees of resistance that made the governancestructure of former colonies which causes the different destiny of these former colonies.Strong resistance will cause metropolitan stateadopted direct ruling system,forbidding local people to join the government of colony,to control local humans' resistant spirit and action which will lead to the lack of political experience for local political elites.So these elites would be failed to deal with various problem,especially the race conflict,after the colony gets independence.Thus,this colony,like Burma,will suffer a lot in the future.However,if the colony did not appear strong resistance,metropolitan state adopted indirect ruling system,allowing local people to join the government of colony,because of trust.And the local political elites of colony will own much political experience which will be helpful for them to solve various problem,especially the race conflict,after the colony gets independence.Thus,this colony,like Malaysia,will be peaceful and prosperous.The main achievements of this thesis,compared with existing research,are the new assumption the degree of resistance decides the governance formof metropolitan state and the idea that colonial legacy inheriting will affect the political stability after the colony gets independence.
