Yuan Dynasty Weapons Research

Weapon means different kinds of lethal and destructive tools and devices in military struggles.Weapons also play important roles in military,the quality of the weapons whether advanced or not even decide the results of war.Yuan Dynasty is a very important phase in the development of weapons in Chinese history,during such period,both cold and hot weapons used in the war.In the respect of cold weapons,the ancient Mongol cavalries galloped in Asia and Europe and won many battles,weapon is the basic military substance guarantee.This thesis makes the weapons used by the Mongol knights and the Mongol horses as an important research point,and then makes a comparison among Mongol cavalry,Jurchen cavalry and Chinese cavalry of Song Dynasty,in order to prove that the reasons why the Mongol cavalry could win so many wars the Mongol horses and the weapons are the key factors.In the respect of hot weapons,since mid-Tang Dynasty,all through North and South Song Dynasties,powder weapons used in the wars in large-scale,tubular firearms had a great development since Song Dynasty to Yuan Dynasty.During such period,tubular firearms converted to shooting type from burning type,the materials of the tubular firearms also had a great change.The Mongol imperial guards also equipped with lots of firearms.This thesis also makes the tubular firearms used in Song,Jin and Yuan Dynasties as another research point,to prove that why the ancient Mongol armies could win so many battles,using and learning new technologies is another way.
