Lawrence Stone is a prominent historian in the twentieth century who had a long time for social history research of the early modern English,and promoted the in-depth study of this field powerfully.Stone involved a wider field of historical,aristocracy was his main topic of research.Stone is a crucial witness and participator whose role constant changes in the directions of western history in the twentieth century,the interaction between Stone and twentieth western history is also the entry point of this article.Stone was a founding father of New History whose historical research played an important role in propagating and generalizing it;Stone was a pathfinder of New Culture History who made writing mode of narrative to be rethought and accepted.In Stone's historical practice,it shows criticize and inheritance,as well as tradition and innovation,he is a significant new historian.The full text is composed of four parts.Introduction discusses the research significant of this paper,combs the present research status,and explains the research methods.It is inevitable to avoid the environment and life-long fortune that who are studied in character studies,and then forms specific social-historical idea and cognitive of history,this is what chapter one tells about.Chapter two and chapter three refer to Stone's concrete practice of history,so the main part of the paper.Chapter two focuses on the early modern aristocracy that Stone studied,it holds that Stone enlarged the scope of social history,and provides the perspective on whether there through an existence crisis of the stratum.Chapter three sets out from the transition of early modern English family affection,and holds that family history was the new practice and progress of the New History that Stone took part in,in the other hand it also reflects the author's core idea of west-centered theory.Chapter four puts Stone's life learning in the twentieth century western history transmutation to explore,in which place extra emphasis on its correlation with the age,and then theoretically refinement Stone's historical practice in order to summarize his historiography thought,and finally discuss the practical implications of his historical practice.The conclusion makes a brief evaluation of Stone's life of learning,in order to put forward some opinions of mine.
