Lu Xun translated quite a lot of books in his life, leaving a considerable number of printed publications. Most of the binding design of these books and magazines were designed by himself. The research object of this thesis is Lu Xun's translation of "The Tides of Modern Art History",which is considered a "relic" of Lu Xun.This Chinese translation now preserves printed material. This thesis proceeds from its "relics" attribute and makes an interdisciplinary overall study of it.The core issue of this thesis is to clarify the basic elements of the Chinese translation:who, where, what, when, how, and why.For this reason, this thesis selects three aspects of the image, text and events involved in the Chinese translation and discusses nine related issues on the basis of correcting previous research errors. This thesis finally examined eighteen new conclusions. The conclusions above are of great significance for the determination of the basic information of the first edition of the Chinese translation, for discussion of the dissemination and acceptance of Western art history in China, for the cross-cultural communication and misunderstanding of foreign vocabulary and its concepts in the Late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China, for Ye Lingfeng's contribution to the development of modern Chinese arts,as well as the historical facts of Lu Xun and Chuang Zaoshe of editorial warfare, and finally the origin of Lu Xun's new woodcut print movement.Although this thesis focuses on historical facts of textual research,it aims to"reshape" value rather than simply "deconstruction." This thesis also hopes that through this visual translation of the Chinese translation, readers will be able to know and discuss Lu Xun's personality and "theories" related issues from multiple angles,as well as get a glimpse of the ideas behind his actions and the cross-cultural communication process in the first half of the 20th century.
