Archetypal Criticism Theory is one of the most important criticism methods in the history of Literary Criticism,not only can the archetypes make people in totally different cultural backgrounds get the same felling,but also can be inherited and developed for a long time by changing its types.This paper has chosen the unnoticed archetype foot to explore its significance in archetypal criticism and in Chinese poetry and essays through its changing types.This paper has been separated into five parts:The first part is introduction.The main content is for exploring the documents what scholars had been studied,in addition,studying the archetype foot in different times and different cultural is also in this part.It is a completely new perspective to put archetype foot in literary works for literary criticism study.What’s more,it points out the importance in Chinese literary works,especially in ancient Chinese literary works.The second part is the brief introduction of archetype foot and its changing types.Archetypal criticism is the integration of Frazer’s anthropology,the psychology of Carl Jung,and so on,but by the end of Northrop Fry is putting forward and making this method of criticism goes so far.But archetype foot is not only in the form of foot in literary works,but also is showing by the forms of shoes and sock.Although there are some different forms,these are all the essential inherited and developments of archetype foot.The third part is the generalization of archetype foot.According to their own senses in literary works,it has been divided third categories:Aesthetic significance,the symbol of sex,the symbol of the identity.The first category is studying the changing type of foot in our ancient Chinese literary works,which has shown female charming,at the same time,there is a phenomenon that men are crazy for female’s feet,shoes and socks.The second category is studying the archetype foot and its changing type shoes which can show a loving feeling to other,we can see this in Tang,Song lyrics and Ming Qing novels.What’s more,there are a special relationship between a man and a woman,that is Oedipus Complex,which also can be seen through archetype foot.The third category is regarding archetype foot as a symbol,such as a male and a female especially a couple of spouse plan to appoint a thing,and they always choose the female’s shoe to be the symbol of their appointment,while they see the shoe,they just like see their appointment.This category is always to be the symbol of marriage appointment,which we can see in modern and contemporary works.And sometimes,the shoe can be the symbol of personal status,that is to say,different status put on different shoes.Even though this is not the main sense of archetype foot,we can’t ignore it.The forth part is studying the changing of archetype foot and its aesthetic significance.When the archetype foot are shown in Chinese modern and contemporary works,they are not just standing for their own surface meanings.Undeniably,there are also their own meanings,but not just them.An increasing number of writers have payed attention to female’s emotional appeal by archetype foot,even the appeal of life.Writers show modern female’s pursues for future by archetype foot,which is not neglected aesthetic significance through the development of archetype foot.The last part is the ending.Through the studying of archetype foot itself,and its changing types and the former scholar’s researches,we can summary a conclusion,the studying of archetype foot can’t just be the surface,we must explore its aesthetic significance for modern works,what’s more,it’s the trend to explore the pursue of female for their life and the meanings of female’s fighting.From the perspective of archetype foot senses in Chinese poetry,we can know that it has inspired female to pursue their own happiness and thought their own meaning of life,which have enriched the use of archetype foot and the discussion in deep.
