The Study Of The Expression Of National Cultural Characteristics In Zhuang Xue's Character Photography

Now days,more and more people pay attention on Zhuang Xueben,a master of documentary photography. As the value of these works recognized again, Zhuang came back to our horizon and his photos have struck a real shock and sympathy,although he has been forgotten for a long time. From 1934 to 1944, Zhuang Xueben took more than 5000 photos about ethnic minorities living in Sichuan and Qinghai,which reflect the local customs,scenery and social structure. Zhuang is more than a photographer. He is a national affairs manager as well. So, his work includes photos and papers, which fills the gap of Chinese photography history and provide a lot of valuable information for national research.This paper combs Zhuang Xueben's works in a national perspective and tries to achieve some meaningful results about Zhuang Xueben, especially the expression of national culture within four chapters. Starting from the historical background about the expression of national culture in Zhuang's photography of characters, chapter one tries to analyze these works under a great outside environment. Chapter two tries to seek some breakthroughs about the quality of national culture expression. It distinguishes Zhuang Xueben from other photographers, and helps us have an intuitive view about its value. Chapter three combs the works' core from three dimensions and tries to find the 'soul' in these works. The last chapter studies Zhuang Xueben from the perspective of value and significance, which makes the value become more clear.
