Exposing and criticizing of social reality has always been the main content and ultimate goal of the writer’s creation. However, unlike other critical and realistic writers,his works are characterized by strong social realism and historical imprint. Times in which Tolstoy lived have brought great influence to his works. The classic works such as "War and Peace", "Anna Karenina", "Resurrection" and "Hadji Murat" are all true portrayals of social reality. When reflecting the content of the real historical era, the writer has been tirelessly pursuing the art form of innovation and development. For a long time, the critics have discussed the relationship between the social life and the content of the writers deeply and persistently, but neglected the connection between the art form and the social background, which leaves much room for us to further understand the artist Leo Tolstoy.Therefore, this paper focuses on the influence of the historical times on the art form in the writers’ works.The unique artistic characteristics of Leo Tolstoy’s works are mainly manifested in the different psychoanalytic methods, while the psychic dialectics, inner monologue and stream of consciousness are three important means. These three artistic methods change with the development of the social life and the author’s thought. This paper tries to explore the changes of Leo Tolstoy’s psychoanalytic expressing method which is represented by"psychic dialectics", inner monologue and stream of consciousness and their changing process in different history stages. All of this will be achieved in the context of historical discourse, dynamic grasp of Leo Tolstoy psychological description of the art change,finally reaching the causes of all these changes.Artistic content and historical times and social development has always been closely related to each other and the form of art is also no exception. As a classic writer deeply influenced by the historical epoch, Leo Tolstoy’s art form has been changing with the development of social history, reflecting the characteristics of complexity and diversification.
