Su Shi not only saw Song Dynasty decline from prosperity, but also experienced many ups and downs himself during his whole life. So the sociocultural environment and personal rough life made Su Shi tend to pursue to live a simple and plain life. Consistently he show this pursuit both in literary and artistic creation and aesthetic theoretical building. This thesis will mainly analyze why Su Shi prefer Pingdan style, what his aesthetics on Pingdan is an contains, and how he practiced in literary and artistic creation and life under the thought on Pingdan:There is a part of introduction before the text, which contains three parts. First it concludes that Aesthetics of Pingdan has three layers of implications through collecting materials concerned the evolution. And then reviews the current research overview and analyzes the innovations. Besides, this part also puts forward how to design the research and the research methods used.Part One explores the basics on which Su Shi tend to pursue Pingdan style: First, it was on the base of the the sociocultural environment of the time. In Northern Song Dynasty, the feudal society system strengthened, the commercial economy developed, the culture became orthodox,reserved and rational, the innovation of the prose and poetry made great progress and the the three religions, Confucian, Buddhism and Taoism, became fused all make it possible for Su Shi to pursue Pingdan stlye. Thirdly, the Sus' unsophisticated thought and family education influence Su Shi deeply, Su Shi's personal rough life experience made him try to transcend the reality and himself and living in the countryside provided him with materials and calm.Part Two tries to uncover Su Shi's aesthetics on Pingdan. Su Shi uncover that the connotation of Pingdan style contains insipidness, keeping balance between many elements and transcendence. And then I makes a comparation between Pingdan and Ziran and that between Haofang,two other relevant aesthetics categories. Besides, Su Shi developed aesthetics on Pingdan in three aspects: extend the filed of aesthetics on Pingdan from poem to all kinds of arts;the pursuing of Pingdan is a generative process; Su Shi's aesthetics on Pingdan artistic is full of dialectic.Part Three analyzes what characteristics contains Su Shi's aesthetics on Pingdan: For the aesthetic subject, the individual should keep quiet and indifferent state of mind; for the aesthetic object, it should be flat and natural and the literature or art works should be simple, wild and lasting lingering charm.Part Four aims to discuss how Su Shi realized his aesthetics on Pingdan: the flat and innocent literary and artistic creation and living free by seeking pleasure in the rough life.
