Jiang Yanwen Notes

Jiang Fan(1761-1830),a representative figure of Yangzhou school in Qian Jia period,was early trained by Wu school,and deeply inherited the knowledge of Wyeth school.He thoroughly understood Confucian classics and history,widely read books,and then became a generation of Confucianism.He never stopped writing and left a lot of valuable academic works,especially "the Inheriting of Han Academic Tradition " commended by people.Although Jiang Fan was known as Confucian classics and history,his achievements in literary creation should not be underestimated.This paper makes comments on the contents,and on this basis,combining previous research,makes a comprehensive review of the content,the style and the literary ideas of Jiang Fan’s literary creation,which is expected to provide some reference for the comprehensive and objective evaluation of Jiang Fan’s writings,and then promote the academic community to further study Jiang Fan.In the content of literary creation,Jiang Fan’s poems mainly include "YiBingJi" two volumes,"BanYueLouShiChao" three volumes,and "BianZhouZaiJiuCi" one volume.etc.,whose contents are mainly about friendship.However,his articles have different styles,extensive content,and greater achievement,mainly including "LiJingwe" four volumes,"XuLiJingwen" one volume,"BingZhuShiZaWen" one volume,and "BanZhanZhaiTiBa" two volumes.etc.Those articles can be divided into three categories:(1)the overview of each confucian classic and the textual research of the etiquette system;(2)shuttlecocking letters and preface and postscript,and argumentations,biography and grave table;(3)check and discrimination of the collection of classics,stone inscriptions,brick inscriptions,and inscriptions.etc.In the aspect of artistic expression,Jiang Fan widely learned the essence of literary creation from the predecessors and contemporaries,combined with his own life situation to form his own unique artistic style.Jiang Fan’s literary creation as a whole shows the "Qing Jun plain" style,and has the artistic characteristics that "diction is simple and refined rhetoric,coherence smooth" and "a large number of allusions are always cited ".In the aspect of literature concept,Jiang Fan was deeply influenced by the current academic atmosphere and Yangzhou scholars.In the long-term process of literary creation,Jiang Fen gradually formed a fixed literary concept,which was mainly embodied in the four aspects of "rooting in Confucian classics","learning widely from others’ strong points","advocating innovation",and "expressing spirit".From the overview of Jiang Fan ’s literary creation,he should have a place in the history of literature in Qing Dynasty.
