Urban Buddhist Social Function And Realization

With the rise of Buddhism in the country,the social value of Buddhism has begun to enter people’s field of vision.More and more researchers have begun to pay attention to urban Buddhism and its social significance.This paper investigates and visits the monasteries in Xi’an,Chengdu and Shanghai,these monasteriesas paid a lot of energy to develop the social function of urban Buddhism,and all kinds of their social activities won the wide support of local residents,also received the affirmation of the government.In more than a year of survey,through personally participate in the social service activities organized by the monasteries,and interview with the members who works in the organizers(the non-profit charity organization of the urban Buddhism monasteries)of these activities,and the monks who in charge of these Buddhist social activities,and conducts an investigation on the social service of the monastery and conducts in-depth interviews with the participants.Through the field investigation,this paper summarizes the content form,the practice subject and the propaganda way of the social function of the urban Buddhism,analyzes the characteristics of the urban Buddhism’s social function in its connotation and realization,and finds that it begins to absorb the modern managementway to plan the organization of social service activities,so that the social function of urban Buddhism is more extensive,the implementation of more refined and in-depth,in promoting the cultural concept of Buddhism,wide Fukuda while harvesting the public and the government’s attention and recognition.This paper attempts to analyze the causes of the formation of this feature and the influence on the social function of urban Buddhism in order to provide some valuable materials for the study of urban Buddhism.
