On The Tragic Nature Of Shanghai Literature

In 2013 a newly-published novel Fan Hua(Flowers Blooming)arrived again at the climax of the research on Shanghai School of literature.This novel describes the ways of the world of Shanghai from 1960's to 1970's and in 1990's,which awaked the recent normal research situation of Shanghai Literature.Here're the reasons: The sketch of open-air banquets in Fan Hua tends to remind me of the similar social contact in The Biography of Flowers in Shanghai;The sensual depiction is like New Sensation School;The diction and linguistic style seem to inherit the spirit of Eileen Chang who brought the prime time of Shanghai literature;The grow up of main characters in lanes and Shikumen evokes Everlasting Regret a hit in the last 20 years;The thin tragic significance is the common characteristic of these Shanghai School of literature mentioned before,that is,the superior Shanghai literature is destined to have special tragic ending.Thus my dissertation would present almost typical tragic forms in Shanghai School of literature,meanwhile compare and contrast them with related tragic theories in order to clear up the tragic point in Shanghai literature,which will create a new and comprehensive angle for research on Shanghai School of literature.On this way this dissertation would pay more attention to probe if we could build a bridge between Shanghai literature and tragic theory or not.Moreover,the differences of defination of Shanghai School and Shanghai School of literature must be clarified,let alone state the reasons why these works are chosen as the research objects and why these contain tragic characteristic and are seen as the representative Shanghai literature.These questions must be solved in the beginning of the paper,then move on smoothly.The dissertation consists of three charpters.Charpter One clarifies the defination of Shanghai School and Shanghai School of literature and draws the outline of the history of Shanghai School of literature,explaining the reason of the selection of the works,solving some the problems from definations and background information.Besides,according to the development of tragic theory,two main logic directions of tragic study are marked out on the basis of recent research.Two directions are rational outside and irrational inside,the latter one has close connection with the tragic point in Shanghai School of literature.Charpter Two summarizes the tragic in Shanghai School of literature by close reading the selected works,discusses deeply the similarities and differences of the works' tragic expressions with the help of their creation background,trying to refine the types of tragic expressions.Charpter Three would present related tragic theories and discuss on the tragic characteristics in the dimension of theories themselves.Because the tragic we've been researching on couldn't be enlarged into a novel and established theory,so it's reasonable to probe the tragic in Shanghai literature with the help of related or similar theories in order to explore if the tragic has the possibility of theory developing and if it could be a kind of power to the tragic theory development.More problems might be mentioned or solved partly here.This charpter may eventually bring a panorama of tragic points in Shanghai School of literature and try its best to add Shanghai literature into tragic theory,even if Shanghai literature in tragic theory is like a shadow till now.
