On Lin Haiyin's Unique Beijing Imagination And Life Memory

Lin Haiyin is a very special Chinese writer.After born in Japan,she moved to Beijing with her parents and grew up there.Then she went to Taiwan for work.She experienced a multiple transformation of cultural identity in her life.However,the emotion for the ancient city of Beijing followed her,inspired her and made her from start to finish.Lin Haiyin calls Beijing as her wet nurse because it is the cradle of her growth as well as the place where various experience exists.Also,it makes her form the perspective of observing the life and the world.On the basis of predecessors' research for the writings about Beijing of Lin Haiyin,this paper wants to make a careful study for her works again in order to analyze her memory and imagination about Beijing through aspects of multiple borderline perspective,rich life experience and poetical aesthetic experience in texts.The study will open a new window of observing the writer and Beijing.The first chapter mainly discusses Lin Haiyin's warm and normal view of Beijing which is different from others who narrate the story about Beijing.It makes the book named “Memories of Peking: South Side Stories” as reference and compared with contemporary Beijing looks of Lin Yutang,Lao She and Ling Shuhua in order to highlight Lin Haiyin's creative features on conception,gender position and cultural forms.The second chapter mainly talks about Lin Haiyin's rich experience in Beijing showed in her novel.This chapter regards the novel “Memories of Peking: South Side Stories” and “The Stories of Various Marriages” respectively as the chief source of analysis of writer's experience of childhood and adulthood and is associated with her proses about Beijing memories in order to highlight writer's distinct regional consciousness,awareness of time and space and moral culture consciousness through a detailed description of local conditions and customs in south of Beijing in 1920's,the heroine's identity transformation and growing experience,the lives of common people and the traditional culture of the old family.The third chapter focuses on the poetical aesthetic characteristics in Lin Haiyin's text.This chapter still sees the novels “Memories of Peking: South Side Stories” and“The Stories of Various Marriages” as the chief source of analysis to explore the way of presentation for the past in aspects of narrative form,narrative rhythm and narrative language as well as Beijing memories as one of the aesthetic experience existing in writer's thinking so as to realize writer's attitude towards the era,the culture and the life.As one of a few female writers with ambiguous identity,Lin Haiyin exists between the traditional and modern times,the mainland and Taiwan as well as the awareness of feudal patriarchal and women's rights,which makes her works include infinite topics.
