"Mandarin" Joint Compound Sentence Research

GUOYU, the China's earliest writing work of national style, had recorded a number of principalities such as Lu, Qi, Jin, Zheng, Chu, Wu and Yue's history,covering a span of nearly 500 years from BC 990 to BC 453. Classified by individual state, focusing on events recording, the GUOYU had encapsulated Chaopin, banquet,advising, debate and response between states as well as partial historical events and legends. The words in GUOYU are natural, vivid and stressing on rhetoric. It reflects the true reality of social state of that period and is conceived as a highly valuable original history material. Studies on GUOYU's text will be helpful not only for figuring out development and use of ancient Chinese in that time, but also for a contrastive study to modern Chinese.The study is divided into three parts. The first part mainly introduces the basic situation and literature review of GUOYU. Then theoretical basis, judgement criteria of complex sentences, research method and significance of the study are respectively presented; The second part defines in detail and analyzes grammatical forms of four kinds of complex sentence in GUOYU; The third part is summary part, mainly summarizes the results of the study; from the diachronic perspective to summarize the differences and similarities between the GUOYU and YAN TIE LUN.; summarized the study has theoretical and practical shortcomings, prospect the future development of the study, Future directions and refinement suggestions are also presented in this part.For more scientifically identifying and analyzing seven kinds of joint complex sentence in GUOYU, this thesis has adopted statistical method, historical literature method and textology to calculated out precisely the numbers of each kind.Therefore, this study, with a title of A Study on Joint Complex Sentences in GUOYU,carries out a scientific statistics and analysis of joint complex sentence in GUOYU and sorts out the grammatical forms of joint complex sentence of Chinese language in that period, laying emphasis on the analysis of the use of different kind of it, for thepurpose of getting a grasp of grammatical system of ancient Chinese language, of knowing social state in that period as well as providing a relevant data reference for other GUOYU studies.
