| The combination 'X le' in Mandarin Chinese has gradually boomed in recent years. Frequently used in spoken Chinese, the combination possesses lots of special and important functions.Based on the definition of 'X le' and also the Chinese fact, this study selects haole, xingle, dele, suanle and bale as specific objects, trying to make a detailed analysis of its discourse characters and functions.This study first talks about the aim and significance of this thesis, introduces the theoretical background and methods adopted and summarizes the relevant research achievements of this topic. Chapter 1 describes their distributions in text and draw a conclusion of their discourse characters. Independence means that it can be used independently to express mood, while direction means that it directs to different parts of the discourse. Then the next chapter discusses the mood function of 'X le'. It can be used to express dissuasion, suggestion and concession. According to the specific situation, dissuasion is divided into friendly dissuasion and ordered dissuasion. Suggestion is divided into positive suggestion and helpless suggestion. Besides, we can also use X le to make concession by changing or ending topics. Chapter 3 mainly explores its'significance in organizing discourse.'X le' takes an important role in discourse link, discourse replying, and also is useful to make polite expressions which help us to build and maintain good relationships between each other. |
