Study On The Phenomenon Of Alienation In "Fatty And Fat Buttocks"

In the history of philosophy,the alienation of man is an unavoidable problem.Fichte,Hagel,Marx and the western Marxists etc.have elaborated the alienation in details.Marxist theory of alienation contains Marx’s alienation thought and western Marxists’ theory of alienation.Focused on man,they criticize the reality in social life and concern human existence and development.Marx created the theory of alienation of labor mainly from the economic perspective,and pointed out the inevitability and periodic development of alienation,and he also expounded the sublation of alienation.The western Marxists mainly studies the negative factors from the perspective of culture,and puts forward corresponding critical theory.Based on Marx’s theory of alienation as well as the corresponding alienation theories of part of western Marxists,the alienation embodied in "Big Breasts and Wide Hips ",one of Mo Yan works,is studied in this paper."Big Breasts and Wide Hips " is a novel by Mo Yan.In this novel,the development and changes of an ordinary family reflect the great changes of Chinese society in twentieth Century.Men can be inevitably involved in the social changes,and their material and spiritual life are always profoundly influenced by the historical development and changes.Mo Yan noticed that despite the continuous progress of society,humankind is subjected to degeneration.This kind of "degeneration" and Marx’s "Concept of Man" of alienation have some similarities.From the perspective of Marxist alienation theory,the different material and spiritual states of the " Big Breasts and Wide Hips " characters in different periods are the concrete manifestation of alienation in different historical periods.In extremely straitened years,alienation is mainly manifested as the enhancement of human’s animal characteristics,the advocating of power and collapse of the moral system.In relatively wealthy times,alienation is mainly manifested as follows: the fanatical pursuit of material wealth;the prevalence of phenomenon of “ reification” and abnormal moral value.The alienation in the novel is inevitable from the perspective of historical development and it is the inevitable form for an individual to realize the free and comprehensive development.We have to understand that the alienation phenomenon we are facing is inevitable and will be long-term phenomenon.Therefore,humanistic spirit and individual uniqueness must be paid attention to when vigorously develops the productive forces and production relations.
