Giacomo Puccini(Giacomo Puccini, 1858-1924),the second most distinguished opera composer after Giuseppe Verdi, is one of three great masters of the 19 th century Italian opera. As a "verismo" music school representative, in the creation of the opera Puccini pays more attention to the dramatics and the true color of the plot story,exiles in portraying the fate and love of nobody, and directly reveals the phenomenon of the social inequality and real status quo. Puccini is very focused on the opera script. the drama first has always been a principle to follow in creation of Opera, he asked the script writer can write the script moving the world. Puccini also has followed the traditional Italian opera characteristics, and attaches great importance to the status and influence of the human sound of the opera. He bravely tried to break the rigid line between recitative and aria, integrates skillfully readings into arias and portraits a character’s inner emotional world more in-depth. Puccini has created 12 operas in total,his every opera has an unique artistic style, he is good at portraying the female tender traits and personality charm. Most of his portrays present the tragedy love and tragic fates, for the word is not only a great opera, more is to expose the social environment, class differentiation and unfair phenomena, so the title of the opera is also named by the name of the heroine.The four of which is recognized as the masterpieces such as- "Manon ? Riesco", "Boheme," "Tosca" and "Madame butterfly." This thesis elaborates in many aspects based on Puccini’s life, creative background and music style. The two heroines Mimi and Mary Lennon Choosen from two famous operas "La Boheme" and "Manon Riesco ",has been discussed detailedly and comparatively analysed in terms of shape, characterization, and other emotional expression.Author has been better prepared for learning more about the image of women portrayed by Puccini,understanding deeply the essence of Puccini’s opera and singing its soprano opera excerpts by analysing and comparing the aria of the typical Puccini soprano.
