The lacquer sand ink-stone is one of the special ink-grinding appliances in Chinese lacquer ware history,which selected Chinese lacquer and carborundum etc.as its raw materials and was produced with a special process.The fabrication of lacquer sand ink-stone has a long history which can be traced back to the Han dynasty;however,due to the complicated craftsmanship as well as the high cost,it was once lost in history.Lu Kuisheng,the Lacquer artist of the Qing dynasty restored the manufacture of The lacquer sand ink-stone,which revived for a moment and then lost again to the world because of the chaos caused by wars.In the 1970 s,lacquer art workers in Tunxi,Anhui province and Yangzhou,Jiangsu province made trial preparation of the lacquer sand ink-stone and achieved success.Unfortunately,because of the contradiction between commercial mass production and the complicated craftsmanship,the inheritance for the lacquer sand ink-stone preparation technology was landed in a predicament again.Through collection and study on the related data of ancient Chinese lacquer sand ink-stones as well as the comparison of manufacturing skills between modern and ancient lacquer sand ink-stone preparing,this paper traced for the inheritance blind spots from four aspects as the beauty of the material,technology,art form and practical function in order to gather ancient and modern gleanings and conduct resurrection practice.Meanwhile,combining these with graduation creation,the author has explored the possible ways to revive traditional handicraft of the lacquer sand ink-stone from theoretical principles,materials and shapes so as to achieve the research objective of reviving tradition.
