A Comparative Study Of The Related Content Of "Speaking Of Words And Solutions � Mu Department" And "Erya"

Shuowen Jiezi composed by Xu Shen from the Eastern Han can be called a monumental work in the field of linguistics and philology,which is the first dictionary concerning the analysis of characters structures.The book collects 9353 words and1163 variations,including 540 radicals.Erya is the first dictionary written according to the meaning arrangements in China,collecting the exegetical data from the pre-qin to the western han dynasty,which is the only one that is listed among Confucian classic works.Both of the two books mentioned above have laid a solid and stable foundation for Chinese philology research.Shuowen �Mu Radical totally collects 421 words and 39 variations words,which boasts the most amount of characters.The contents relative to Erya involve many chapters,mainly focused on three articles,including Shicao,Shiyan and Shigong.All of them have something in common in many aspects,thus I consider them as the main targeting object.In this thesis,we adopt the method of comparison,analysing comparatively,mainly from the shuowen�Mu Radical and relevant content in Erya,targeting at collected annotations of contrast,meaning categories,style comparison,and the heritance and development of Shuowen�Mu Radical and Erya.According to the comparison,Shuowen �Mu Radical and Erya present the similarities and differences in every aspect,explaining the development and evolution of Mu words.Both of them carried out in accordance with the regulations,sorting out how our ancient ancestors planted and applied "Mu" and how they conveyed information.We can adopt this to reflect on China's archaic social life,relatively analyzing and clarifing the annotations mentioned in the text,making a conclusion of the way to inherit and promote Shuowenjiezi and Erya.
