Vladimir Vladimirovich Nabokov(1899-1977)is a great novelist,essayist and poet during the 20 th century.Considered as a master of American Experimental novels and an originator of Post-modernism,he is also an outstanding translator and entomologist.His works not only connect Russian literature in the early 20 th century and that in contemporary era,but also bring vigor for American literature.Playing a decisive role in Russian and American literature,he has made a tremendous contribution to the history of world literature.Vladimir Nabokov is a prolific writer.Among his significant works.Lolita,one of his full-length novels,is his masterpiece without doubt.Since the novel was published,there have appeared so many disputes and interpretations.My thesis aims at analyzing the aesthetic subject in this novel from the perspective of carnivalization.This thesis consists of three parts: the introduction,the main body and the conclusion.The introduction briefly presents the background and the theory of this thesis and summarizes the current research status of Lolita in China and abroad.Then based on these factors,the purpose and meaning also will be discussed.The main body of the thesis is made up of four chapters:Chapter one is about the duplicity of characters.It will be analyzed by contrasting characteristics of four protagonists---Humbert,Quilty,Annabelle Lee and Lolita.Chapter two is about the carnivalesque feature of the plot.The social situation in America of 1940 s to 1950 s and its carnivalesque feature will be elaborated in the scenes of motel and school.Chapter three is about the variation of the writing subject.The openness,multiplicity and uncertainty of themes will be explained in this part by briefly analyzing schizophrenia,social morality and socioculture.Chapter four is about the forms of the art.Parody---the dominating means of artistic expression carnivalizational literature will be introduced.And the application of detective fiction in Lolita is expected to be focused.The third part will generalize the content of the thesis,and a conclusion will be provided.
