Foil is an important material that is world-widely applied in the traditional Chinese art.Due to the gorgeous metallic colors most of them have,it is often used for decorative items,paintings,sculptures and other works of art.Foil is always enduring in the historical evolution of thousands of years.With historical changes,different religious backgrounds and folk culture,the role of the foil has also undergone subtle changes.When the foil meets contemporary art context,it has become the best example of traditional materials used newly.Painting was endowed with a new meaning by contemporary foil to shine a new glow color.From ancient Egypt to the Shang Dynasty,from the Buddhist temple to the Central Plains,from artifacts to frescoes,from walls to paper and silk,the paper aims to systematically comb the role that foil played in the specified background and art forms,at the same time,to combine with the author’s own creative practice to outline the foil’s techniques foil in the context of contemporary art.
