On The Intellectual Writing Of Mu Dan's Poetry

Mu Dan was an exceptional poet and translator in the modern history of China. The extraordinary experiences and rough life have expanded the time span of his works, which are cast with the rise and fall of his emotions in a natural manner due to the close combination of his destiny and the times. Through his works, we see clearly the paths of the poet's life and the spiritual connotation, which are profoundly demonstrated by his poetry, of time and reality. It was this sagacious poet that poured between the lines the deep attachment and compassion he bore for his motherland and the people lived on it, bringing out all his wisdom of creation. There has been enormous probe into Mu's life experiences, excavation of his writing ideology and discussion on the art features of his works. Comparatively speaking, there has been less study on his wisdom of creation showed in his works. Therefore, the author attempts to further bring it to light by means of observing the relationship between poet's life path, characters, and the impact it posed upon his writing, along with the performing approaches and forming causes of his wisdom of creation.This article is divided into five parts. The introduction part explains the genesis and conception of this article. The first chapter mainly deals with the issue of "what is intellectuality". On the basis of a distinct understanding of the origin and development of "intellectuality" in terms of poetry content, form, as well as in the history of Chinese modern poetry, it is then shifted into the carding of the growth and characteristics of Chinese modern intellectual poetry, and thus identified that "intellectuality" is "wisdom", intelligence, inclined to be rational while resulted from sensibility; resourcefulness peculiar of poets, who deliver philosophical and wise themes by utilizing images full of sentiments and senses, together with theatrical elements. Based on assimilating alimentation from accidental intellectual poetry. Chinese modern intellectual poetry incorporates native culture and reality with poets' thought and wisdom, to integrate philosophy and the beauty of intellectuality. In the second chapter expounds the methods of Mu's poetry creation, approached from aspects like meditation on life and vita, selection of thematic images, dramatic soliloquy and the use of strange languages, etc. The third chapter illustrates that Mu owed his intellectual tendency to his personal experiences and philosophical consideration in those times of China, through the analysis of the relationship of his life path and character, in quest of the internal causes of his wisdom of creation from angles like social reality, cultural edification, introverted personality and natural writing, etc. The conclusion part summarizes the whole article and comments on the status and significance of Mu in the history of Chinese poetry based on foregoing discussion and analysis.
