The novel rat model of Irritable Bowel Syndrome(IBS)was investigated.A method of random combinations of the constraint, excessive fatigue and eating disorders was adopted in the establishment of the model of irritable bowel syndrome in rats.During the experiment, the appearance, behavior and stool form of the rats were evaluated. The body weight, liver weight and spleen weight of the rats were examined. The levels of CRH,ACTH,CORT,VIP,SS,GAS,MTL,IL-1?,IL-2 and TNF in the plasma or brain of the rats were detected. The colonic histology of the rats were examined. The effects of traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions Sinisan and Tongxieyaofang on the model rats were also investigated. The results showed that, compared with the control group, significant differences(P<0.05)were found in the model group on the biological indexes of the rats. There was no significant difference on the colonic histology between in the model group and the control group. The extracts of Sinisan and Tongxieyaofang effectively improved the biological indexes of the model rats(P<0.05).The results suggested that the rat model of Irritable Bowel Syndrome was initially established by the method of random combinations of the constraint, excessive fatigue and eating disorders. The trends on the biological indexes of the rat model were observed to conform to the clinical and pathological features of IBS.The biological indexes including the appearance, behavior, stool form of the rats, and the level of ACTH,CRH,VIP,MTL,GAS and IL-2 in the plasma or brain of the rats could be employed as the characteristic indexes for the model evaluation. The results provided references for the researches on animal models of Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
