contained tea from the medical formularies we choosed. However, the tea which is not the leaves of the genus Ca-mellia are exclude, such as green onion tea,Schizonepeta tea and mint tea, etc.Major reference books:(1)Materia medica:read Zhong Guo Ben Cao Quan Shu for reference materia medica, related herbal parts in the medical books, medical formularies and agricultur-al books, ect.were also searched.(2)Medical formularies:the main references books are Bei Ji Qian Jin Yao Fang,Qian Jin Yi Fang,Wai Tai Mi Yao,Tai Ping Sheng Hui Fang,Tai Ping Hui Min He Ji Ju Fang,Sheng Ji Zong Lu,Pu Ji Fang and Yi Zong Jin Jian.(3)Tea literatures:the main references books are Zhong Guo Cha Shu Quan Ji Jiao Zheng and Zhong Guo Gu Dai Cha Shu Ji Cheng.Result:(1)There are 159 informations that are related to the drug properties of tea,in-cluding 144(90.57%)cold tea informations, and 15(9.43%)warm tea informations. There are 141 informations that are related to the taste of tea, including meridians,5(7.81%)informations blong to the Kidney and Stomach meridians.(2)The earliest extant record of the efficacy of herbal tea is Ben Cao Jing Ji Zhu,and the earliest book that record the tea effiction separately is Bei Ji Qian Jin Yao Fang.According to the statistics, assuage thirst(100),help digestion(95),expecto-rant(93),antipyretic(93),clear-headed(82),diuresis(80),awake sleep(78),lower TCM works, and it is not until Qing Dynasty that teas except green tea are recorded.Such as pu-er tea and an-hua tea are dark tea, luan tea is yellow tea,Wuyi tea may belong to oolong tea or black tea.(2)It is the common understanding of ancient physicians that the drug impartial of tea is cold. There is no record of "green tea is cold, black tea is hot" in TCM litera-ture.There are only 5 kands of tea were recored as hot, which are named Mengding tea,Wuyi tea,Pu-er Tea,Anhua tea and Luzhou tea. However, many of its arguments are related to the origin of tea or religious legends, and have nothing to do with the Tea Processing or the effect of tea.(3)Tea can be eaten, drunk and medicinal, but it mostly consumption of tea is for drinking.Tea drinking has emerged as a hobby, mainly due to its ability to refresh oneself.Beside,Drinking tea can quench their thirst, help to digestion, dispel phlegm, lower the body temperature, refresh one's mind and diuretic. However, there is little medicinal value of tea,and the quantity of tea leaves is small in the herbal prescrip-tion.Most of the herbal prescriptions which includes tea are prescriptions taking medicine with tea water. These 1018 prescriptions are usually applied to treat head-ache,eye disease, pyocutaneousand dysentery,etc.(4)In TCM,there is no absolute contraindication that can not take medicine and tea at the same time. However, drinking too much of tea will bring side effects,Which will be damage for the spleen and stomach, and lead to anemia and emaciation.Tea is mainly used to enhance the excitement of the
