Since it has been discovered,the theory of fractal infiltrated promptly into different industries,while it's been used to describe morphology of semisolid alloy microstructure for recent ten years.Pitifully,fractal theory obscures its conception so that it is hard to be comprehended.Most researchers just reported the dependency between fractal dimensions and the morphology of semisolid alloy microstructure,the inner information and correlations were neglected.However,the research of this two terms is very significant because of its high value of efficient material development,figuring out that the microstructure determines performance.Based on the concept of fractal,this paper explores the fitting point between semi-solid morphology and fractal behavior of ZL101 alloy,and explores the fractal regularity in the formation and evolution of semi-solid structure.The microstructure of semi-solid ZL101 was discussed by introducing the concept of "information entropy" to explore the self-similarity of semi-solid structure evolution.The morphological characteristics of semi-solid primary crystal grains were investigated by Fourier series shape spectrum.The morphological regularity of the morphology of the semi-solid primary microstructure was found,and the morphological evolved into a "similar" evolution with differences.In addition,comparing the fractal dimension with the conventional description indicators of alloy microstructures,it cleared the relationship between them and what role it played in the description of semi-solid microstructure morphology.Which is,Fractal dimension can be expressed as solid phase and shape factor,but the correlation with grain size is very minimal.Finally,the semi-solid structure under different physical mechanisms is obtained by different semi-solid processes,and the empirical formula of fractal dimension-elongation is established respectively,which accumulates the experience for later research.The characteristics of this paper are as follows: Using the statistical method,from the basic concept of fractal dimension,it concludes that the evolution of semi-solid microstructure has fractal characteristics.It's clear scope of describing semi-solid microstructure by box-counting method.The empirical formula between fractal dimension and elongation of ZL101 microstructure was obtained under different semi-solid processes.
