With the rapid development of national economy, the demand of coal resource is largely increasing. However, the great coal mining has led to geological disasters like:large scale surface depression, surface collapse, and ground fissure which causing landslip, slide and damage to the land vegetation. Coal mining brings tremendous loss to social economy, meanwhile, being a potential safety hazard to those who live above the mining area. So community attached great importance to the risk of surface collapse. This paper made a deep and systematic risk study on a specific Mining area-'Yao Qiao' Mining area. On the base of surface depression mechanism and analysis of settlement factors, armed with field investigation of mining area, the surface depression risk assessment of mining area was undertook by the methods of APH and GIS comprehensive assessment.According to the actual situation, APH was used to analyze the hierarchy of this certain mining area.4 assessment factors were chosen in the first hierarchy, while 11 in the second hierarchy to set up assessment model of mining area. Surface above the mining area was divided into 108 assessment districts by underground face. The effect of surface depression was divided into four levels according to risk:serious danger, less serious danger, general danger and lower danger.Expert scoring method was used to give a score to each factor and classify them. Calculating the weight of each factor in causing surface depression, then mark the 108 districts by risk score standard. Use the weight of each factor to do overlaid compute by GIS graphic overlay function, until the risk level was finally obtained.Analyzing and processing the measured data of surface depression which belongs to two mining districts. The subsidence area and Sinking equivalent figure were concluded. The result was verified by ?Yao Qiao Mining Area's Safety Production Rules and Regulations?...
