With the rapid development of world economy, the role of Asia is gradually important and inevitable, the most representative is China and ASEAN countries. For historic reason, naturalresource-intensive and labor-intensive industries dominate in China and ASEAN countries. The trade between them is complementary and competitive. It’s meaningful to do the researches on their trade pattern, complementarity and competitiveness, which would help to induce them into a healthy competition, tap their complementary potentials, improve bilateral relationship, leading their economy and trade to a high level. This paper tests the influence factors of bilateral trade(such as Indonesia, Malaysia and so on) with a simplified gravity model from the perspective of preference similarity theory. Then it turns out that the trade pattern(inter-industry and intra-industry) is the key factor. Then TSC is applied to measure its trade pattern and found primary products and some industrial products are dominated by interindustry trade, and electronic and mechanical products are dominated by intra-industry trade. The paper continues to measure the complementarity in inter-industry-trade products and the competitiveness of intra-industry-trade in international market, and try to find out the influence factors of them through panel regression model. The results show that the complementarity is affected mainly by market scales, resource endowments and technology gap; and the main factor of the competitiveness is the technology gap.The main conclusions of this paper are as follows: inter-industry and intra-industry trade both exist in China-ASEAN trade, and the inter-industry trade dominates currently. On the trade of specific products, resource endowments and market scales are the influential factors of their complementarity; the technology gap is the main factor to influence their competiveness. Generally, the complementary is more dominant than the competiveness of China and ASEAN countries, with huge trade potentials to tap. China should improves its crafts and technics to reduce its competiveness with ASEAN countries; and cultivate the complementarity between them, promoting the development of their trade.
