Infrared thermal imaging technology has been widely used in military and civilian areas,however,due to the influence of the atmospheric medium ? the device performance and so on,infrared image has some disadvantages such as low contrast,vague details and poor observation,so it is necessary to enhance the infrared image.As one of the most important research directions in the field of infrared image enhancement,infrared image detail enhancement techniques improve image quality by dividing the original image into two parts: low-frequency section and high-frequency section,and processing the two parts with the corresponding treatment.But image enhancement is a subjective process,and the effect of infrared image enhancement is mainly judged by human eyes,so it is of great theoretical significance and practical value to enhance the infrared image details with the human visual characteristics.The main work of this thesis is listed as follows:Firstly,the infrared image's characteristics are analyzed,the concept of infrared image histogram is introduced and the background and noise of infrared image are analyzed in detail,whose purposes are pointing out the necessity of infrared image enhancement;then the commonly used infrared image enhancement methods are studied,and the advantages and disadvantages of these methods are pointed out,so the method of image detail enhancement is proposed.Based on the research of traditional infrared image detail enhancement method,a method of infrared image detail enhancement based on visual features is proposed: the proposed method firstly uses bilateral filtering algorithm to divide the original image into two layers—low-frequency image and high-frequency image.The low-frequency image is processed by the infrared image enhancement algorithm based on adaptive lateral inhibition network,which can suppress the background noise effectively,highlight the gray difference between the target and the background;then the adaptive S curve gray transmission is proposed to process the high-frequency image,which further enhance the detail information of the image;finally,the two parts of the image are fused to get the synthesized image.Based on the research of algorithm theory,the proposed algorithm is verified by MATLAB and the image enhancement effect is evaluated by the objective and subjective evaluation criteria.The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has obvious detail enhancement effect,and the objective evaluation indexes of the images are improved effectively.
