Brain-computer Interface(BCI)provides the possibility of communication directly between brains, which has long been a magical dream.BCI not only enable intent decoding but enforce modulation on nervous system to affect certain feeling and behavior. It is a promising approach to form an information pathway between brains by combining these two types of BCI,whereby establishing a Brain-brain Interface(BBI).Prior studies proved the feasibility of BBI between rats, monkeys and humans.BBI between human and another creature was also established to demonstrate information transmission or mind control. However, the efficiency and effectiveness of the transmission and the performance of mind control requires further exploration. The present study combined the motor imagery(MI)based BCI with the micro electrical stimulation-based rat cyborg to form a wireless BBI between human and rat, whereby mind-controlling the locomotion of the rat cyborg by human brain to complete tasks in various scenes in real time. The major work are as follows:1)We examined the feasibility of decoding human intention and eye nictation by customized motor imagery based BCI as control method during mind control.2)Two decision-making strategies,i.e.,Direct Threshold Method(DTM)and Gradient Threshold Method(GTM)were proposed to generate the control commands towards rat cyborg with decoding results of the MI based BCI.A BBI was established based on the strategies, which enabled steady mind control of rat cyborg's locomotion.3)We designed experiments of transition from manual control to mind control, whereby realizing the steady performance of mind control. The performance of two strategies based BBI was compared and GTM outweighed the other in terms of the stability of mind control. The results indicate the feasibility of BBI between human and rat,and mind control through multi-dimensional information transmission between two entities by computer-assisted BBI is intriguingly possible.
