Liquid Crystal on Silicon(LCoS)is a novel reflective display which combines traditional TFT-LCD and CMOS technology.It has the advantages of high resolution,high aperture ratio and fast response.Therefore,it has been widely used for projection displays,3D Hologram and near-the-eye virtual displays.LCoS is researched in this paper,including the application on high resolution and field sequential color display,the fringing field effect of high resolution LCoS and the characteristics of LCoS with photoalignment.Firstly,operation mode and correlation parameters of LCoS are achieved by simulation.For the purpose of achieving high contrast ratio,operating principle of vertical alignment(VA)mode is discussed in-depth.On the basis,high resolution and field sequential color LCoS is fabricated.During its craft process,technological parameters are improved by large numbers of experiments.Furthermore,its electric optical performances are investigated.Secondly,fringing field effect of high resolution LCoS is introduced.We have discussed its reasons and several solutions.What's more,a novel configuration using three electrodes(Tri-E)is proposed,and its electric optical performances are also investigated by simulation.The results indicate that the fringing field effect is greatly suppressed,which shows excellent potential for ultrahigh resolution LCoS devices.Finally,a research on LCoS using photoalignment has been done.It preliminarily confirms the feasibility that photoalignment can be used in LCoS,which supplies the foundation for performance improvement of LCoS.
