The airport pavement performance will gradually decline with the increase of service life,and the time used to conduct maintenance and reconstruction for large airport is tense.Therefore,making a scientifically effective maintenance plan is important to ensure the normal operation of airports.At present,most of the airports in China are still using empirical method to determain the maintenance decision and paper document to reserve the information of airport pavement.The traditional method's limitations are obvious:low efficiency,lack of science and systematization,bad data consistency,etc.The most important is it can not provide an analysis basis for airport authorities to develop the preventive maintenance and long-term conservation plan from the life cycle of airport pavement.Directing against extant defect and deficiency of airport pavement management in China,airport pavement management system(APMS)is very significance to carry out pavement management with scientifical,economicaland objective.Firstly,the definition and research status at home and abroad of APMS is summarized in this paper,and then a comparative analysis of the expressway decision support system,Shanghai airport management system(SHAPMS)and FAA PAVEAIRR is conducted to determine the functional requirements of an airport pavement management system.Combining with the pavement management demands of Chinese airport,the framework and modules of a GIS airport pavement system was developed.Secondly,original data which is necessary to establish an APMS was defined based on the research of the domestic pavement management situation.Analysis the commonly used data collection methods and compare the advantages and disadvantages among them.Then,recommending efficient,automatic and objective data collection method for airport pavement management system.Furthermore,the storage table for each original data to be collected was designed in this paper.Thirdly,a perfect airport pavement evaluation system which concern destruction,function and structure was established.By contrast with various pavement evaluation methods,the evaluation index,model and standard for the each content within the evaluation system are definited combining with application status of our country.Currently,the distress assessment and functional evaluation method of China's airport pavement is relatively uniform,but the structural evaluation method lack of accurate,scientific and consistent standards.Therefore,considerable energy and time was spent in the research of structural evaluation.Considering the influence of joint load-transfer to slab cavity estimating,the calculation of slab cavity coefficient was improved.It is recommended to use the improved equivalent load method to calculate PCN.Taking an airport in northeast China as example,compare the PCN value of the improved method mentioned above with software COMFAA.It is found that the PCN value calculated by improved equivalent load method is more appropriate for short-time structural notification.According to the latest civil airport rigid pavement design specification,a new process to forecast the remaining life of structures is proposed.Additionally,a set of program which used to calculate pavement structure parameters and evaluation index calculation was developed based on excel VBA development tool.Finally,main Influencing factors of airport pavement performance and common methods for performance forecasting are studied to select the most suitable prediction index as well as forecasting module.The Significance and Function of pavement performance prediction was also discussed in the paper.Summarizing the elements and advantages of Web-GIS which is selected for APMS through comparing multiple GIS.Accordingly,the application of GIS in pavement management system is analyzed,and the spatial database is established successfully.
