By placing antenna elements on the surface of the curve-platform,a conformal array is abtained.Conformal arrays have their own advantages,including wide-range scan,wide-area cover and they hardly have any influence in the pneumatic ability of the platform.Since they were proposed,they have been got many attractions and have been developed rapidly.Sphere is a widespread platform and antenna array could be wrapped on it easily,so it is practical and valuable to design spherical conformal antennas.Mutual affects can not be neglected in the analysis and synthesis of the conformal array.Moreover,the structure of the platform also have impacts on the patterns of the array.In order to solve these problems,active element pattern(AEP)is employed.Therefore,the analysis and synthesis of the spherical conformal antenna based on AEP is displayed in this paper.The major contents can be summarized as follows:1.Based on AEP,the far-field radiation model of the conformal array is established.Meanwhile,in order to verify this model,a linear-polarized spherical array is designed and the radiation pattern is analyzed.2.The principle of the invasive weed optimization and a hybrid optimization is introduced;The parameters of the algorithms is summarized.Moreover,typical instances of test function are presented to illustrate the performance of the hybrid optimization.3.The pattern synthesis of the linear-polarized spherical conformal array is achieved by using a hybrid IWPSO algorithm.The measured results matched well with the simulated ones.A variable-polarized spherical conformal array is set up based on dualpolarized element,and the hybrid pattern-polarization synthesis is finished.4.A spherical conformal dual-band dual-polarized array is designed.The power pattern synthesis of this array is investigated.
