Many physical features of DPAL indicate that it can be achieved high power output,and now there are two ways to improve output power,one is based on single cavity and one is based on MOPA configuration.Compared with single cavity,there are many advantage of MOPA configuration,for example,better beam quality,lower thermal effect and protecting the optical elements in cavity.Thus it is necessary to study the alkali vapor laser with Master Oscillator Pump Power.In this paper,we study on alkali metal laser amplifier in Theory and experiment.The main contents of this massage are as follows:1.The model based on three level system for alkali laser amplifier is set up,which considering the ionization channels,combination process and diffuse effect.The model can be test by the results of experimental of literature.Based on this model,the factor which can have an effect on alkali laser amplifier are studied,for example,temperature,seed and pump power intensity and the gain length.2.A single frequency Rb DPAL with TEM00 mode has been set up as the seed of rubidium laser amplifier.The main parameters of this DPAL is as follows: output power 1.6W,spectral linewidth <1GHz,tuning range ~5GHz,the M2 factor of the X and Y direction respectively for 1.305 and 1.389,power drift is less than 2%,frequency drift less than 100 MHz.3.The characteristics of an Rb laser amplifier are experimental studied.When there is only one amplifier,a maximal amplified laser power of 26 W is achieved with amplification factor of 16.3 and power extraction efficiency of 53%.And when there are two amplifiers,a maximal amplified laser power of 11 W is achieved with amplification factor of 7.9 and power extraction efficiency of 26%.In addition,the experimental results of one amplifier are corresponding to the Simulation results.4.The windows of Rb cell in cavity has been damaged in the experiments.the damage process and mechanism of DPAL windows have been experimental studied and analyzed.The results show that,two different processes exist in DPAL windows(take glass as example): the heat induced physical damage and the reaction(between alkali and hydrocarbon)induced chemical damage.The mechanism of these two processes has been analyzed.The research method in this paper could be applied to study the performance of other DPAL windows.
