Semiconductor-pumped micro-chip lasers have excellent thermal management performance,high output laser beam quality and small crystal size,which is advantageous for the miniaturization of the laser system.In industrial processing,agricultural production,health care,materials synthesis,defense industry has a wide range of applications.This paper summarizes the current situation and development trend of semiconductor-pumped microchip lasers at domesticand foreign,and introduces the characteristics of microchip lasers.The unit technology of microchip laser is described,including LD pump source,beam shaping and resonator design theory.The finite element method is used to study the thermal management of microchip laser,and the design of microchip crystal cooling device is given.The experiment results show that the output power of 3.51 W and the optical conversion rate of 10.97% are obtained.Based on this,a novel microchip laser structure is presented,and the output power is 6.18 W and the optical output is 9.66%.The Cr4+: YAG crystal with initial transmittance of 87.49% and 92.09% was placed in the resonator of the novel microchip laser,Q-switched laser output with average output powers of 2.365 W and 2.238 W with pulse repetition rates of 8.92 kHz and 14.87 kHz with pulse widths of 34.28 ns and 39.87 ns were obtained.
