In wireless communication systems, the conditions of wireless channels are very poor. Interference, fading and many other factors often seriously affect the reliability of the communication performance. The received signal is often corrupted badly by inter-symbol interference when there are multipath effects in the channels, which greatly affect the transmission performance of wireless communication systems. In this case, equalization technique should be used to compensate the multipath fading to enhance the transmission performance and decrease the bit error rate (BER) of the communication system.Generally, there are two methods to combat multipath effects:Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) and Single-Carrier Frequency-Domain Equalization (SC-FDE). In Chapter 3 a frequency decision feedback equalization scheme based single carrier system is designed for MIMO systems because SC-FDE has less sensitivity to the frequency offset and lower peak-to-average ratio than OFDM. Unlike the existing scheme, this one does not need to know the decision information of other symbols. Instead, a block iterative algorithm is used, which achieves better performance under relatively lower computational complexity. In addition, this decision feedback equalization scheme can be combined with multi-antenna precoding, which further enhance the performance by suppressing inter-antenna interference.In Chapter 4, the decision feedback equalization scheme is introduced into MIMO relay systems to further verify its superiorities. In the wireless communication system, relayed transmission can expand the coverage of the communication and improve the reliability of the channel link. Therefore, SC-FDE can be combined with MIMO relay system to improve the performance of communication system. It can be concluded from the simulation results that the algorithm we designed still has better performance than the contrast scheme in MIMO relay system.
