In the last decades, mobile cellular communications have been going through a huge revolution, from 2G to 3G as well as from LTE to the next generation mobile network(5G).With the rapid development of mobile communication technologies, more and more mobile service types are emerging and the mobile traffic is greatly exploding, thus accelerating the evolution of base station deployment.Today's mobile cellular networks have already evolved into a highly heterogeneous one.The spatial topology of base stations and the spatial-temporal statistic characteristics of mobile traffic play increasingly important roles in evaluating network performance.Under such background, the statistical spatial-temporal distribution patterns of base station and traffic in mobile cellular networks have been investigated within this thesis.Firstly, the thesis introduces the mathematical concept and properties about the heavy-tailed distribution, and specially describes the a-Stable distribution model. In addition, several relevant evaluation metrics of goodness-of-fit are provided. The main part of the thesis investigates the heavy-tailed property of base station spatial distribution and traffic spatial distribution based on large-scale real data, and a-Stable model is proved to be suitable to characterizing their distribution patterns.Besides, the thesis verifies that the linear relationship between base station spatial density and traffic spatial density always exists in different cellular networks. On the other hand, the analyses of base station and traffic temporal-spatial properties are also included.Specifically, the thesis provides two methods, namely Density-based Measure and Distance-based Measure,to quantize the heterogeneous degree of base station spatial deployment.Furthermore, the thesis focuses on the statistic characteristics of traffic series in time dimension as well as the spatial correlation of traffic series among different base stations, and finally provides better experimental results. In the end,the thesis makes a summary about the whole work and points out the potential future research on topic.
