Microwave photonics(MWP),a discipline which brings together the worlds of radio frequency engineering and optoelectronics, mainly focuses on how to use the strength of photonic techniques, such as method, device and system,to realize microwave signal generation, distribution and processing. The main driving forces for MVP are expected to come from the requirement of large bandwidth and high linearity for analog photonics links(APL).Meanwhile,it has a great significance for the on-chip integration of discrete photonic components. In this thesis,a deep theoretical study on the highly linear silicon-based modulator for analog optical link has been carried out,and the main works are listed as follows:1.A single Mach-Zehnder modulator(MZM)can be linearized by cancelling the third-order intermodulation distortion(IMD3):using Silvaco simulation software to calculate the nonlinear of Silicon-based PN junction(the change of effective refractive index and absorption loss);combining with the nonlinear modulation curve of silicon Mach-Zehnder modulator. However, the model has some limitations. The Parallel-MZM and Series-MZM models are built to optimum the performance. Finally,a detailed analysis is presented to compare the merits and demerits of these three models with the same input condition.2.Two methods of highly linear microwave links are proposed as nonlinear compensation for modes. One is based on the integrated dual polarization silicon-based MZM,TEO mode and TMO mode can mutual compensate in the same MZM;the other is based on dual wavelength micro-ring modulator, which are compensated by two approximate wavelength signals in the same micro-ring modulator.3.Four structures are designed mentioned above:Parallel-MZM,Series-MZM,Dual-Polarization MZM,and Dual-Wavelength Microring.Meanwhile, assisted structures for experiments are added and measurement plans have been presented.
