In the field of radio communication, Software radio with the open architecture has become a hot research topic. The modulation recognition technology acts an important role in communication systems. Nowadays, there are a variety of automatic modulation recognition algorithms. Study and select the appropriate recognition algorithm and combine the modulation recognition technology with software radio technology, in order to realize the automatic modulation recognition based on software radio technology has great value in engineering application. Effectively to accept, to identify communication signal and then automatically assign to the demodulation module is one of the key technologies of software radio, which has a broad application prospect.Under this research background, this paper mainly discusses the fundamental theory and the realization of communication signals modulation recognition technology based on software radio system. Firstly, a brief introduction to the theoretical basis and status of development of software radio technology and modulation recognition technology is given.we introduce tow recognition methods of communication signal modulation types ,one is based on signal instantaneous parameters, the other is based on higher order statistics, and then the software simulations are presented to verify the correctness and feasibility of those algorithms.In addition, we select one programmable software radio system,which is based on AD +FPGA + DSP architecture, and then realize the index test of automatic modulation recognition of communication signals in this system test environment. Through the study of this paper,verified the feasibility and flexibility that realized communication signal automatic modulation recognition process on this hardware platform, laid the foundation for the realization of the complete software radio system. The project has a very deep meaning.
