Helical-core fiber has broad application prospects in the field of fiber filters,polarizers and fiber lasers because of its characters in polarization state control and wavelength selection.Recently,it has attracted wide interest.This paper proposed a fabrication approach of helical-core fiber with electric heating,based on study of present methods.Circular heat resisting graphite heat fiber uniformly as a heating element,thus it is good to fabricate helical eccentric-core and helical multi-cores fiber.This article introduced the fabrication progress,and explained the influence caused by temperature field,fiber rotation speed and horizontal movement speed by experiments.Firstly,the circular heat resisting graphite is modeled with finite element,then it is seen that fiber reached soft state to be rotated appropriately when the electric current is 16A or 17A in heating simulation.Fiber rotation was simulated in a constant speed.Secondly,we built the experimental platform to fabricate helical-core fiber,and designed rotation fixture,proposed and tested three concentric adjustment methods.It is seen that eccentric distance can be controlled around 8?m.Fixtures coaxial implementation is acquired with help of prism and microscopy imaging system.Thirdly,fiber rotation speed and horizontal movement speed are controlled by photoelectric coder and grating scale by their feedback information.17A electric current is suitable to soften fiber by experiments when gas flow is 2.5L/min.At last,we used this system to fabricate helical-core fibers which pitch are 2mm,2.5mm and 3.0mm,then calculated them in microscopy imaging system.The pitch are general longer than theoretical value.In constant temperature field,it is seen that the pitch is influenced by rotation speed and horizontal movement speed.
