3D MIMO technology has become an important component of the next generation communication system with its own high system throughput and spectrum efficiency and low cell interference. Compared with traditional 2D MIMO technology, 3D MIMO technology has improved the performance of the system by using the resources of vertical dimension to provide faster data transmission rate for communication system. In 3D MIMO systems, the antenna deployed at the base station will present a vertical array of planes and the number of elements increases, that will lead the the correlation which causes between the elements. In addition, as an important part of the 3D MIMO system, the channel estimation technique is very important for the diversity combining and coherent detection of the receiving end. Therefore, this article will study the following two aspects :Firstly, the correlation between the elements in the 3D MIMO system is gradually deepen. Therefore, the correlation between the elements in the antenna array is derived by combining the three-dimensional channel model and the expression of the channel response under the three-dimensional channel model. The correlation coefficient can be divided into two types: horizontal direction and vertical direction. The factors influencing the correlation between the antennas are deeply explored by simulation. In this paper, we propose a pilot placement strategy for different queuing scenarios, and the validity of the proposed pilot assignment strategy is verified by simulation.Secondly, the problem that the pilot estimation method of the pilot-based channel estimation method is too large due to the increase of the number of elements in the 3D MIMO system, the channel estimation problem of the 3D MIMO system is taken as the starting point. In this paper, the problem will be deeply researched. Firstly, the existing channel estimation method for 3D MIMO system is analyzed and the shortcomings of the existing methods are pointed out. Then, pilot placement strategy and decomposition of azimuth antenna will be researched based on the research of the related theories such as antenna correlation. This paper proposes a channel estimation method based on antenna correlation and from the pilot scheme, channel estimation algorithm and interpolation algorithm of these important aspects of the proposed algorithm for a detailed description of the proposed. Finally, the performance of the proposed algorithm is verified by simulation and compared with the existing channel estimation method for 3D MIMO system.The above is the main research point and innovation of this paper, which closely around the 3D MIMO system antenna correlation and channel estimation technology. With its many advantages, 3D MIMO technology is gradually attracting more and more attention in academia and industry.It is believed that the research results in this paper can provide some theoretical reference for the research and application of 3D MIMO technology.
