With the rapid development of wireless communication, Internet of Thing (IoT) begins to draw the attention of operators and manufacturers.As an important technology of IoT, Machine Type Communication (MTC)is machine to machine communications in cellular network and its service features have significant differences from H2H communications. It is very important for intelligent services. Due to the variety applications of this technology, it has great market prospects. There are many problems need to be considered. 3 GPP has been researched and discussed MTC for a long time. In Release-13, 3GPP proposes three targets. According to these considerations, how to design MTC is still facing severe challenges and the improvement of it has very significant theoretical value.This thesis aims at the system design and the research of technologies in MTC. Firstly, the thesis analyzes higher requirements and targets of MTC that 3GPP put forward in Release-13, which includes UE complexity reduction, coverage enhancement and UE power consumption reduction.Secondly, based on these goals, this paper proposes the improved methods of random access procedure and paging. Considering the repetition technology, this thesis designs new mapping relationship between PRACH resource set and low cost MTC UEs. By this way, collided UEs will not falsely receive the RAR and wait for Msg.4 for collision resolution.Besides, it also presents the new indication method of RAR repetitions for MTC UE in there, which can improve the spectral efficiency and reduce UE power consumption. About paging, this thesis analyses a new design that can quickly acquire information about ETWS, CMAS and SI update.Finally, the simulation results prove that these solutions can achieve the improvement of MTC performance.
