With the continuous development of network services and people’s increasing requirement of privacy,the demand of protecting the anonymity of servers is generated on the basis of protecting users’ communicate anonymity.The Second Generation Onion Router(Tor)’s hidden services is perfect to meet this demand,however,the hidden service technology did not develop very much since it was come up more than 10 years ago.In recent years,with the continuous expansion of the network service scale,the demands of setting up large-scale network service on Tor or moving some network services to Tor are increasing.Therefore,this paper focuses on Tor’s hidden service,mainly to analyze the possible problems and try to come up with effective solutions to its scalability.Firstly,this paper introduces the basic workflow of Tor’s hidden services,and describes the descriptor’s creation,publishing,acquisition,selection rules of directory server and so on,at the same time,analyzes its potential problems.Secondly,we specifically discussed hidden service’s scalability and conducted an investigation technology that is possibly applied to improve its scalability.Thirdly,we conducted experiments using Shadow to evaluate the solution that running multiple instances to solve their scalability exploration capability from the aspects of load balancing and failure transformation.Finally,we concluded the experiment and designed a mixed hidden service descriptor release solution.It makes hidden service that is running multiple instances can distribute its descriptor corresponding to its hidden service directory server more evenly,so it makes hidden services get more excellent load-balancing effect.The program also defines a robust failure mode that brings improvement for Tor hidden service’s scalability and reliability.
