Nowadays, the initial interest and discussion of the vision and needs of the fifth generation mobile communication system (5G) has evolved into a new era that attracts the attention of both researchers and engineers worldwide. The new research direction will lead 5G cellular network to produce the fundamental changes. Because of the advatages of higher capacity and higher spectral multiplexing efficiency in the hot spot area, ultral dense heterogeneous network has been seen as the main technical means to meet the ever growing of mobile traffic demand. However, since the large number of small cells are deployed, ultral dense heterogeneous network faces many new technical challenges such as interferencce, mobility, backhaul, and power consumption. These challenges can be attributed to radio resource management issues. Radio resource management technology is an important research field of mobile communication system. Compared with the traditional resource management technology to improve the spectrum efficiency and seek the maximization of system capacity, the goal of 5G resource management is more diversified. In particular, with the increasing density of cell deployment, it is of great significance to improve the energy efficiency of resource management technology and realize green communication faced with the global energy consumption problem. At the same time, ultral dense network brings a lot of storage resources to the edge of the network. Thus, how to improve the cache hit rate of mobile edge network and how to use these storage resources to enhance the efficiency of the network is a new challenge to resource management of 5G era. Therefore, this paper studies green cellular network technology and mobile edge caching technology of radio resource management from the perspective of improving the efficiency of resource management. This paper firstly introduces the background of green communication and mobile edge caching, summarizes the energy saving methods and principle of mobile edge caching, and then introduces two innovations. One is an energy efficient macro-assisted sleep mode scheme in heterogeneous networks, the other is a macro-assisted framework of cooperative edge caching in heterogeneous networks. The former considers increasing the energy efficiency by reducing the energy consumption of the base stations, and investigates the sleep mode technology under the heterogeneous networks. System level simulation result shows that the scheme can effecively reduce the overall energy consumption of the system while not affect the other performance of the system. The latter achieves cooperative caching without introducing a large amount of signaling overhead, improves the relative cache size of the edge networks through collaboration, and realizes the aggregation of user requests in dense small cells thus could learns the user request behavior characteristics more quickly and accurately. In addition, a new caching strategy based on URL prefix weight is proposed, which makes the system recognize the popularity of new content directly and improves the cache hit ratio. Simulation results shows that the scheme can effectively improves the hit rate of edge caching, and can effectively alleviates the problem of backhaul.
