With the development of modernization and information technology, people’s requirements of performance of the modern industrial control system are improved, and the requirements for the maintainability, fault diagnosis and fault-tolerant control of the system are also increasing. The fault diagnosis and fault-tolerant controller design has been a hotspot of research,and has made remarkable achievements. In this paper,several common faults are researched with the theory of linear system and matrix knowledge.Firstly, the background and significance of research project, concepts and methods of fault diagnosis and fault tolerant control, problems of research status and its future development is introduced. The theory of the linear system, matrix theory knowledge and indicators of performance are also introduced. The innovative work of this paper as following:(1) Fault diagnosis and the design of optimal fault-tolerant controller of multiple time-delays systems, the specific fault of which cannot be directly measured, is studied.Method of converting time-delays systems into systems without delays is given and the optimal fault-tolerant control law of the system in the case of failure is designed. Its existence and uniqueness is proved. In order to solve the unpredictability of the system fault and its impossibility to realize optimal fault-tolerant method, a kind of reduced-order state observer need to be constructed. Finally,simulation examples demonstrate effectiveness of the conclusions.(2) Firstly, for faults within the system, two methods for system fault diagnosis is shown and the merits and demerits of the methods were compared for a given time-invariant systems.Then, fault diagnosis of the system is done based on integral calculation. The proposition is given about fault diagnosis according to the different situation of similar matrix of system matrix. The theorem about fault diagnosis is given at the same time. Finally, the step about fault scoping is given. System fault within the scope can be diagnosed based on integral calculation method according to the step. The theory is proved and simulation examples show the validity of the conclusions of this paper.
