The Brain-Machine interface(BMI)builds a direct information communication pathway between the brain and external environment which offers a new means to the disabilities for the motor or sensory function restoration.At present,the most of BMI technology uses neural signals to control external devices with visual or other sensory information as feedback of environment information.However,this type of feedback has two drawbacks:1)When the visual input is damaged(blind),this type of feedback is invalid.2)Visual feedback can not provide tactile information(eg.Temperature).A closed-loop BMI system with intracortical microstimulation(ICMS)as feedback is conductive to control the external devices precisely and implement two-way information interaction between brain and the outside world.In this research work,we established a closed-loop BMI system based on rats,through the ICMS feedback of different temperature.In this experiment,we explored whether the rats could distinguish between different electrical stimulation or not.We achieved that rats used neural signals control robotic arm.And we completed the training of closed-loop BMI task in rats.The ICMS was verified to be feasible and effective as the feedback of environment.The major work of this paper are as follows:1)We built a closed-loop BMI experiment platform on rodents.This platform could acquisition behavioral information and neural signals in real time.Online processing module parsed these data according to the experiment paradigm.Then the results were transmitted to the robotic arm and electrical stimulator as control instrument.2)We conducted the brain-machine control experiment and discrimination of different electrical stimulation.Firstly,we explored the ability to distinguish different stimulation of rats.Secondly,through the test of using rats' neurons to control the robotic arm,we investigated the adjustability of spike firing rate.3)This paper studied the application of ICMS feedback in closed-loop BMI system.Through the analysis of the behavioral information of rats,we explored the feasibility of two way closed-loop brain-computer interface system and the function of the electrical stimulation in the information feedback.This paper realized the two way closed-loop BMI system based on intracortical microstimulation on rats.This work provide a new idea of motor and sensory function restoration in patients.
