Frequency selective surface(FSS)is a spatial filter that can select the frequency of electromagnetic wave so that it can effectively control the transmission and reflection characteristics of electromagnetic wave.FSS is usually a periodic structure composed of particular elements,and it can be divided into high pass,band-pass,low-pass,band stop four types based on the filtering properties.As so far,FSS has been widely used in the fields of electromagnetic stealth,electronic countermeasure,communication and electromagnetic compatibility.In practical engineering application,factors such as material of the substrate,element structure,unit size and space among units and arrangement mode of FSS,etc.,have important influence on its transmission characteristics.Generally,miniaturization design,angle stability and polarization stability are fundamental to FSS.Based on the three mentioned aspects,this thesis will focus on the design and optimization of FSS by simulation design and manufacture test.The main work can be summarized as:Firstly,the research background of FSS,development history and its application in engineering are introduced.The theory and analysis method for FSS are also discussed.Secondly,a novel single screen FSS is designed and manufactured based on the traditional cross structure unit.Simulation and practical test results have shown that the angle stability and polarization stability of the new proposed FSS is better than that of the the conventional cross structure unit.Finally,based on the square ring element,a dual band-pass FSS with double screens are designed and manufactured.The angular stability and polarization stability of the FSS are also analyzed;The analysis results show that the design is beneficial to the miniaturization of array cell size.After that,the design was processed and tested,The design will have some application value in the field of electromagnetic engineering.
