Mobile wireless network can be divided into MANET and DTN according to the different movement patterns of network node. With more and more mobile wireless applications, simple structure of the network can't meet the increasing needs. In this paper,we studied the Maritime Fleet Networks, which has the general characteristics of intermittent connection network,in addition features small number of nodes, slow topology changing and infrequent split. So the Maritime Fleet Networks has the dual characteristics of DTN and MANET.Since the DTN introduces Bundle, increasing the overhead of communication, resulting in the decline of throughput than MANET in connectivity networks. So the throughput of DTN has room for improvement in infrequent split network.DTN can deel with intermittent connection network but has poor performance in the connected network while the MANET is opposite. So in this paper we designs a disruption tolerant transport protocol(DTTP),which integrates the DTN and MANET to realize advantageous complementarities.DTTP achieves dynamic switching of the transfer mode, using the heartbeat packets to detect end-to-end connectivity. It will switch to TCP/UDP automatically while using a MANET route when the network is connective and to Bundle while using a DTN route when the network is split.DTTP works on terminal node, using different system of transport protocol and achieves the unity of the interface. While DTTP only need to deploy in terminal node while the routing node run the DTN and MANET routing,so it is a lightweight deployment plan.In addition,DTTP abandoned the complex Bundle API and realized a simpler Socket interface to make the upper application development easier. Finally,we implement DTTP on our test bed.We tested DTTP in intermittently connected network, proves that it can achieve real-time transport protocol dynamic switching effectively. We also tested the performance of DTTP and the result show that it has higher throughput compared with traditional DTN in the same scene.
