With the advantage of low power consumption,high data transfer rate,large capacity,and strong anti-multipath effect,ultra wide-band(UWB)communication technology is widely used in military and civilian communications field of wireless communication technology.UWB antennas that converts a guided electromagnetic wave on a transmission line to a plane wave propagation in free space together with the highly integrated single-chip RF transceivers occupy an important position in wireless communication systems.With the volume decreasing of the wireless communications system terminal equipment,the miniaturization and high integration of the antenna and RF front-end circuit design become urgent.In this context,the packaging antenna(Ai P)technology came into being,in this technology antenna is integrated with the RF chip into a surface mount device,which will reduce the system package size and improve the system integration density.Based on the multi-layer PCB processing technology,this paper applies the AIP technology to the UWB wireless communication system,and takes the AIP UWB antenna as the research object to complete the following research and design work:1.Designed four miniaturized ultra wide-band antennas.The first antenna is based on the plane monopole structure,the physical size is only 14×22.5×1.6 mm~3.The second antenna based on E-plane symmetry surface cutting method,with the size of only 7×23 ×1.6 mm~3,working in the band of 2.78-11 GHz.The third antenna with a compact size of 9×17×1 mm~3 owns a quasi-self-complementary structure with a petal-shaped boundary,which achieves a working bandwidth of 3.21 to 11 GHz.The fourth antenna uses the load-opening resonant ring technology to achieve the ultra-wideband operation in the area of9×17.5×1 mm~3,and has a good notch characteristic for the 5.45 to 5.95 GHz band.2.Designed two small ultra wide-band packaging antennas.The first antenna is a vertically packaged UWB antenna based on the“tulip-shaped miniaturized UWB antenna” mentioned above.This antenna is of a compact physical size(14×23.5×2.8 mm~3)and has a relative bandwidth of 99.86%.Meanwhile,it has almost omni-directional radiation characteristics.The second antenna is a horizontally packaged UWB antenna intended for applying in UWBindoor positioning systems.The antenna in the package structure uses a monopole-like antenna structure that is higher in gain at lower frequency than the above-mentioned“quasi-self-complementary structure UWB antenna”.By cutting a quarter of a circle slot at the corner of the ground plane,the omnidirectional radiation characteristics of the proposed antenna at high frequency band is improved.This package of the antenna processing technology for the multi-layer PCB processing technology,which compared to the LTCC processing technology is more simple and lower cost;through the differential transfer single-ended transmission line and progressive feed conversion structure such as chip antenna interconnect link design,the chip validly feed to antenna.The final optimized physical dimension of the antenna is 24×45×1.6 mm~3 and the operating frequency band covers the chip operating frequency range from 3.5 to 6.5GHz.
