With the development of electronic monitoring technologies,a variety of monitoring equipment has been integrated into our daily life. These cameras play an important role in security, surveillance, and many other fields.Nevertheless, cameras have been utilized for malicious purposes. For instance, criminals sometimes use micro-cameras to steal commercial secrets or personal privacy. In this dissertation,we propose a technique to detect hidden cameras, including pin-hole cameras,by utilizing their electronic radiating characteristics. This technique can be utilized as the building blocks for various applications,e.g.,privacy protection, commercial secrets protection,or museums protection where recording is prohibited. The underlying principles of the proposed scheme are based on the radiation of electronic equipment.According to our study, cameras exhibit unique radiation characteristics in the VLF band and can be used for detection. Thus,we propose a camera detection technique based on this observation, and designed a device using this technique. We performed experiments to verify the proposed scheme.Test results in various environments show that this technology can detect cameras at a relatively long distance reliably. In addition,we can utilize mobile phone's magnetic field sensors to detect cameras. Therefore, the proposed scheme can protect personal privacy, trade secrets, and museums where recording is not allowed achieves. We envision that this technique can be applied to many other important application scenarios.
