The medical field involving a wide range of areas, which plays a very important role in life, always can be defined as an experimental subject, covering massive documents and data that have great reference and practical value in medical field and medical related scientific fields. Meanwhile, as the rapid development of network technology, people's life becomes increasingly inseparable from the network. For medical workers, utilizing network to process medical information has become an indispensable part in their life. The use of these media tools makes the processing and querying of medical information more smoothly. With the continuous development of the Internet and information technology, there are large amounts of data produced at every day in global, which are increasing at an unimaginable speed. Although the informative society has brought people needed information that are enjoyed endlessly, the huge information has made them feeling at a loss. The problem that how to obtain valued and potential information fast and efficiently from the massive network information in application, management and decision-making, should be given more concerns. Information retrieval technology plays a significant part in various areas of life, which helps users to extract useful information from the massive databases in a short period of time, which greatly improves the users' productivity. For the growing small and medium personal websites, due to differences of website techniques, they always could not provide users with good intra-site search services. Besides, the restricted development cost also makes small and medium personal sites to employ the open source website templates with relative mature technologies. In this paper, based on the MediaWiki open source framework and an full-text search engine kit(Lucene) development platform, I design and implement a medical documents management system that utilizes MediaWiki to build the knowledge base, adds the idea of full-text search into the design and implementation of the system, adopts JS to write a page to return the search results to users, and feeds back to users their search intents exactly to meet the users' demands and improve the retrieval speed. In this work, firstly, I introduce the information retrieval related techniques and theories and then I review the knowledge of MediaWiki severed as the open source framework to be used to build knowledge base, as well as analyze the file system and basic function modules of MediaWiki to build the backstage knowledge database. Next, based on the concept of information retrieval, the retrieval process and architectures of Lucene system, as well as the theory and characteristics of Chinese retrieval are studied to explore the implementation of information retrieval system. Futhermore, a comprehensive comparison and analysis of the related sorting algorithms of the retrieval results of documents management system is carried. As a result, through designing and analyzing the system, the medical documents management system is implemented and achieves the desired goal.
