| With the development of social economy, the Internet, and smart sensors, a lot of people are currently focused on wearable devices. Due to the freedom within society, expressing personal requirements has become a feature of modern life whilst social pressures to conform to these changes spread faster through individuals and groups. A lot of issues have been raised including how to reduce the pressure of life in society, how to meet personal requirements, and how to create pleasure and value in wearable technology. Interdisciplinary research and the case study method have been used to abstract the spirit of the game from game activities. Conclusions have been drawn regarding the spirit of freedom, non-utilitarian aesthetic judgements, emotional interests, following disciplines, and making innovations as a result of analysing the contemporary spirit of the game. Accordingly, creating social fashion, changing social behaviours, reducing social stresses and adding social interactions can be achieved with the lead of this spirit. Based on this, similarities between the spirit of the game and the wearable device design convention have been combined through analysing the spirit of freedom, dynamic interests, and interactive culture, while the discipline of spirits of game theory is useful to inform the design practices of wearable devices including forms, interfaces and interactions. In addition, the Apple Watch was picked to be the case study for this paper because this device has the most advanced technology, design and commercial market. Specific performances and values of the spirit of the game have been analysed by researching the Apple Watch.As such, personal requirements and social needs can both be met adequately by designing wearable devices with the guidance of the spirit of the game. As a design method, the spirit of the game provides more adaptability, applicability and generates a guided approach to the design of wearable devices. |
